When we think of a gorgeous garden, we often think of a flower filled oasis drenched in golden, summer sun or a peaceful, lush shady retreat. Cold temperatures and falling snow don’t immediately make us think of our gardens, but just because winter has arrived doesn’t mean our yards can’t still be attractive and awe-inspiring. Winter is the time for us to look beyond those stunning flowers and lush leaves and focus our attention on the sometimes overlooked features of a plant. Evergreens are a natural choice, but imagine the splashy, red stems of a dogwood or bright fruit on a crabapple set against a background of crisp, white snow. Try leaving the dried flowers of a Limelight hydrangea or coneflower up to create some interest when the snow or frost settles perfectly.
